City & Colour

Last week, my friend Joey got in touch with me offering up a free VIP ticket to City & Colour! Joey introduced me to their music back in 2009 and I even planned on going to a concert 2 years ago, but never did, which made this even more exciting!
The concert was last night and I'm definitely still swooning over it all!
Our VIP experience started at 3pm with a sound check. There were only 15-20 of us in the Ogden listening and it was just perfect and we were both totally enamered. The band was rehearsing Silver & Gold and it was so neat to hear them working on making the song sound exactly right - and they played it 2-3 times, which I'm always a fan of! They ended up not playing it during the show, so that made it all the more special.
After the sound check, we got a chance to meet Dallas and hear all about his knuckle tattoos. :) The final VIP perk was bypassing the line before the show, which was probably 2 blocks long! We were among the first in the theater & we got some premium spots.
If you need me, I'll be listening to this song on repeat! Swoon!

the weekend

This weekend was a fun one! On Friday night, the lovely Jaime turned 3-0 and her husband threw her the sweetest surprise party at Cana. The biggest surprise was Beth & Hunter, who tricked Jaime into thinking they wouldn't be in Denver until this week. I'm the worst secret-keeper, so I know I wouldn't have been able to swing that!

The house I'm currently living in is selling, and there have been endless showings & open houses, which means that Oliver & I have to make ourselves scarce. There are only so many things you can do around town with a dog, so mostly, we've been walking...and walking...and some running too when we feel really crazy.
On Saturday, we had to be out from 7am-7pm, and Nicole saved the day by inviting us over!
Wyatt & Oliver were so cute together! Wyatt made Oliver watch him play on the playground and even wanted him to put on his shoe. And feeding a dog a taco was just about the funniest thing Wyatt had done all day. It was pretty adorable. Oliver slept for 12 solid hours once we got home, so it was a win-win!
Nicole & I got to catch up, do some craft brainstorming & even a little shopping!

OlsonField Book Club: New Picks!

images via goodreads
While we're on the subject of book clubs, I thought it'd be fun to share what Beth & I have been reading as part of our OlsonField Book Club.
We're currently reading Life After Life, but I've already picked the next one, The Art of Fielding, thanks to a recommendation from Loren!
I think I can speak for both Beth & I when I say that Tell the Wolves I'm Home knocked our literary socks off. It was so hauntingly sad, but so beautiful and just all around such a good book.
I've been really impressed with how much I love all the books we pick and how different they are, but also some major themes carry though. The Light Between Oceans really made me feel for the characters - I kept thinking "What what I do in this situation?" The Interestings had such complex & rich characters. Life After Life is just so unique - I've never read anything like it! Some take me awhile to finish, but not because I don't like them. It's crochet season and it's so hard for me to choose between crocheting and reading, so I've solved this problem with Audible. I can do both!
Our book club, that was once separated by many, many miles and states, will soon only be separated by ONE MILE! It will be a much-welcomed change to be able to discuss the books live - in person, maybe even with a cocktail!

Book Club: Pumpkins!

Last week, Jaime hosted a (no book) book club craft night! We were missing a few dear members of the group, but it was such a fun night. Jaime made the yummiest chili & rice krispie bars and as always, the wine and laughs flowed endlessly!

Fall Checklist

Make Soap

Last week, Beth & I walked through the Manette Mercantile and they had the most dreamy soap collection. I wanted to buy some, but I just had this feeling it'd melt in my luggage and I'd be left with a mess, so I got this wild idea to make some & I think Beth is on board! Marth Stewart can do no wrong, so I'm planning to use this tutorial!

Crochet a Hat

I've crocheted one hat, a few years ago, but haven't attempted one since. I'm dying to try again and I found the perfect pattern to use via Two Girls Patterns on Etsy.

Make Banana Caramel Cobbler

Karley & I both worked at and LOVED Doolittles! And while the Mudslide Pie was delicious, the Banana Caramel Cobbler was fall-off-your-chair delicious! I'm not imagining that my rendition of this recipe will duplicate Doolittles, but I just have to try! I found one promising recipe already!

Run a 10K

Loren & I started training a few weeks ago (and RJ is secretly training as well (shhh) for the Fa La La 10K! We're upping our 5K distance in a few weeks by running the Rock n Roll Mini Marathon while Adam runs the full marathon. We'll be ready for 6.1 miles in no time!

Mary + Beth in Bremerton!

I had an extremely rainy & wonderful trip to Bremerton, WA! Our plans to kayak, hike, run (and basically anything else) had to be canceled due to the extreme weather. We spent the weekend eating, drinking, laughing, crocheting and staying warm & cozy under blankets.
We were determined to not let the weather change every single plan we had, so we went to the Rodeo drive in movie theater despite the rain! Another highlight of the trip was brunch at the Port Gamble Cafe - I'm still thinking about my salmon egg benedict and of course, mimosas!
A picture is worth a thousand words, so here you go!
