Party with Madeline, courtesy of Google+

Lately, I've been using Google Plus to upload all my photos online. Today, when I logged in I saw this gem! There was a little note below it that said Google had combined these similar snapshots. It cracked me up! Madeline is dancing away! I'm dying over her tiny left hand pinky finger and her right hand that looks like she's snapping her finger.

a picky eater review: chia seeds

I have been trying my best to not be a picky eater. I still *cannot* eat a raw tomato, but that may ever happen.
Anyway, I tried something new this week: Chia Seeds! I've been hearing about all of their health benefits - omega 3's, fiber, antioxidants, blah, blah, so I decided to give them a try using this Triple Berry Chia Pudding recipe. I honestly wanted to use the almond/coconut milk in the recipe, but I hate coconut (mostly for the texutre). I text my food girl, Beth, and we decided I should stick to almond milk and not try too many new things.
"Baby steps." -Beth
In conclusion, this picky eater LIKED the pudding! I don't want to say love, because I'm not there yet, but it was 100% better than I expected. I ate one serving for breakfast & I froze the other in a popsicle mold. I'm thinking it will be a yummy frozen treat! I've found a lot of other recipes for chia seeds I'm planning on trying: an add on for smoothies, salads, and an egg substitute in baking.

The weekend

Hi friends! This weekend I was outside as much as possible and the rest I spent doing some major cleaning of course while watching the new episodes of Arrested Development!
On Saturday, Nicole, Wyatt & I went to the park. He laughed the whole way there as the stroller chased Oliver - it was the sweetest thing to hear! Nicole & I got to catch up and Wyatt worked on his monkey bar pull-ups.
On Sunday, Kari and I + many dogs did the Lookout Mountain hike again. We were in *much* better shape this time around and that made it all the more enjoyable! Oliver loved hanging with the big dogs and we all got in a great workout - and you cannot beat that view!

Walk, walk, walk

We are walking fools over here! One of my most favorite things these days is morning walks...I'm usually close to the park when the music pauses and I know my phone is about to ring and it will be Karley Ann! So from around 6am - 7am, we both walk and talk and it is perfect! Without Oliver, Karley's phone calls arrived while I was sound asleep, and some days I just could not muster the energy to answer, but these days, it's pleasant for us both!
I've been getting so bored with workout-type music - I have album upon album of great music to relax and work to, but being active...that's a different story! I recently started listening to my audiobooks, which makes me feel so productive!
In an effort to mix up the walks and not have to go for miles & miles, I had Oliver wear a tiny backpack. I put a can of tomatoes in each pocket and we took it for a test run. It didn't exactly fit quite right, but with a few adjustments, I think it'll do the job of tiring him out!

the weekend

This weekend was just a little too short! On Saturday morning (very early morning) I volunteered at the Colfax Marathon 5K with Kari. She was representing the Parkinson's Association, and Michael J Fox's team and I helped out! It was so inspiring to hear people talk about their own Parkinson's stories and how much running and being active has helped them!
Our booth was slow while they were all running, and luckily, Kari brought Phase 10. I lost, but we both finished all our phases, so that's the best kind of game to lose. We had lunch at Pinche Tacos, which was well worth waking up before 5:00 a.m!
Having Oliver back in Denver means a lot more activity for me! Gone are the mornings of sleeping in, hitting snooze or lounging all day. We have definitely been putting on the miles...and loving it (mostly)! Oh, and I saw the faceless suited man sticker not once, but twice!!

Diet Bet #2

My second DietBet ended the day I got back to Denver and I can't believe it, but I won! There was definitely a lot of delicious temptation in Fargo - (hello chippers!), but I was able to resist, for the most part.
I also got in a few awesome workouts - especially this one on the farm! It was so refreshing to have peace & quiet! No smelly gyms, no traffic - so nice! I did a few too many lunges though, which is not recommended before you spend 14 hours in a car!

Meet Madeline Rae!

Meet little Madeline Rae, my newest niece! She was born on May 2nd and I got to meet her a week later. She is pretty darn sweet and so, so tiny! We got some quality time while Roey caught up on sleep.
I hand delivered the little dress & afghan I made and I think she like them!

Even though my trip was super short, I got to see the Olson's for the afternoon (go sioux!)! We were joking about how Joey has dressed monochromatically since he was a toddler. I thought that was Bill's handiwork, but I'm beginning to wonder! It works for him though.

After I left Fargo, I got some more Auntie lovin from Joey & Katherine! Joey gave me a copy of a collection of stories & poems he had to write for school. My heart melted. He has so many plans and goals and he's just growing up so fast.
And Katherine...well, let me preface this poem by saying that she's been reading a lot of the Goosebumps books...Yes, that is me, and yes, she is holding my head...and my underwear. She later added "It was just a joke" to the bottom of the poem. What a creative little girl she is! Eeeeek

On Sunday, Dad, Oliver & I set out towards Denver! We made a pit stop in Murdo, SD for the night and rolled into town on Monday!
Not too many dads would drive 14 hours just to drop their daughter and her dog off, but luckily, mine did! We listened to The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry for most of the drive and we liked it! It was a little slow, but overall, really good!
Everyone's back home, safe & sound. Oliver & I have one more North Dakota trip planned for Madeline's baby shower and an Olson family reunion, so we will be back soon!

Sporty things

Ever since my tennis partner left town, I've been crying trying to find someone to play with! Last week, not only did I find one person, I found TWO!
RJ taught me how to keep score, which turned out to be a lot easier than I was expecting! I won the first two games before his competitive side kicked in and he won the next 6 or so.
Sunday, Loren & I got some practicing in. She's just learning and she was so good! We ended our morning with mimosas & iced (not frosted) animal crackers. Yum!

Oh, and here's your weekly dose of kickball! This week's theme was Mythical Creatures! I took the lazy route and "dressed up" as the Easter Bunny. Kari is a cute little unicorn!

Kickball & I love mornings

Monday night was Kickball night! The last few weeks have been canceled due to snow storms, but this week, the snow waited until Wednesday! Our theme for the week was capes, so Kari whipped us up some! I was so ready to catch a fly ball, but the other team must've been intimidated by me, and no one kicked it in my direction. I'm used to hanging out in the lonely right field from my days in softball, but I was surprised to find out that right field is popular in the kickball world and everyone kicks it there! I'll get them next week!
Some days I find myself consumed with worry. My brain can go to the worst-case scenario in seconds! Monday was one of those days.
So Tuesday morning I decided to make a really peaceful morning for myself. I woke up at 5am and tried to read Gone Girl - I am so close to being done & it's so juicy!  My eyes weren't having it, so I walked to Cheesman park. I need to make a mental note to walk east in the mornings next time so I can enjoy the sunrise. When I got back to my apartment, I devoured Gone Girl for 45 minutes and still made it to work early. Perfect morning!
