Kitchen Nightmares

Just when I'm feeling a little discouraged about slicing my fingers open and setting the fire alarm off....here comes Karley on Skype....who also happened to cut her finger open and who also happened to set off the fire alarm making dinner tonight. I love this girl!

ALS Warrior Poet

"It doesn’t interest me what you do for a living, I want to know what you ache for. It doesn’t interest me how old you are, I want to know if you are willing to risk looking like a fool for love, for your dreams, for the adventure of being alive. I want to know if you can live with failure, yours and mine. It doesn’t interest me where you live or how rich you are, I want to know if you can get up after a night of grief and despair, weary and bruised to the bone, and be sweet to the ones you love. I want to know if you can be alone with yourself and truly like the company you keep in the empty moments of your life."

I found that quote on Tumblr the other day & I thought, "Wow, this guy has got to be a famous writer I've never heard of." I had to read more about him and I found out he's an Ironman! His story is pretty inspiring, so you better watch!

Update: I wouldn't be a very good librarian if I didn't report that this quote is actually from a writer, Oriah, taken from a book called The Invitation....So I wasn't too far off...it is from a famous writer I've never heard of!

weekend: pies & a book

This weekend Marie & Sean hosted a pie party! We each brought a pie to share and got to try a little bit of everything. I have failed at pies (and mini pies) many times before, so I decided to go a new route: pie pops. I followed these instructions from The Bakerella. Since they were written by an 8-year-old, I thought it'd be a breeze, but that wasn't the case! Luckily, I bought extra pie crusts, so by the end of my trials, and errors, I had some cute-looking pops! Next time I'll know not to fill them so full and to either skip the sticks completely, or try to stick them higher up into the pie.

Besides a super yummy lunch with Nicole, the rest of my weekend looked exactly like this - crocheting, red wine & a good book.
I've been listening to The Good House on audiobook and I finally finished it this weekend.
The main character/narrator really drew me into this book, so I wasn't really expecting much along the lines of an exciting plot, but the last 1/3 of the book took a turn and I couldn't turn it off until it was over!

ND mini-trip

I spent a long weekend up in North  Dakota! I did some birthday celebrating for the best dad, watched more hockey than I ever have, got some cuddling time with my little dog and had lots of fun family time!

Lil Mary Fancypants

A few months ago, I made a little doll that didn't look quite right and some people even laughed at her long, long limbs! I told Katherine about her & she said that she really wanted her...right away.  So I packed her up in my suitcase and delievered her to the cutest little 6-year-old.
The little doll was named Lil Mary Fancypants. She gave her so much love and even brought her to eat with us. She LOVES pink lemonade just like this Mary!

Katherine appreciates handmade gifts more than anyone, but it's hard to resist an iPad. (I'm guilty of that myself!)

Here's some bonus cute Katherine! She broke her clavicle sledding, but she's on the mend.

The Future Julie Andrews

I tried to tell her she missed a few notes in between, but she wasn't hearing any of it! She's going to be a star!
