Quilt of Clothing

My awesome big sister sent me a special little package in the mail! She had someone make a quilt using my mom's clothing.  I tried to get a good picture of it, but this is the best I could do.  Some of the patches I definitely recognized and some I couldn't quite place. I love it so much though!
I thought it'd be fun to try and match some of the patches with pictures I have of her.
Since every soft surface seems to belong to Oliver once it enters the apartment, I have this one on a shelf for the time being.
P.S. I spy an 8-year-old with a pretty gnarly mullet in the right corner of the right photo. :)

Roey + Oliver + Oscar

Roey & Oliver love to Skype...I'm just the vehicle to hold him up to the camera.
Now I'm watching Roey watch the Oscars and she won't let me hang up.

Let's Get Cozy: Quilt Inspiration

I may have been perusing the Internet looking for wedding shower ideas when I stumbled upon this post from the 100 Layer Cake Blog.
There isn't much potential shower inspiration here; however, there is some major quilting inspiration going on here!!

pink. purple. navy. aqua.
red. orange. aqua. yellow.
mustard. pink. purple. red.

How will I ever decide?!

The Weekend!

Friday night, Beth & I tested out the new frozen yogurt place next to my place, Menchie's. It might have just beat out Yogurtland for our favorite! It was basically geared towards children, but it was super yummy & they have marshmallow sauce, which is just unheard of (and so delicious!).
In the picture above, I was trying to be so careful and avoid Joey's little mishap!

Yesterday, I saw one of the best concerts ever with Kari! DeVotchKa (a Denver-based band) played with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra.  I knew it was going to so amazing, but it was even better than that!
We grabbed some appetizers & drinks at Green Russell, as per Beth's recommendation, and we made it to the show right on time.
DeVotchKa already plays with an upright bass and a violin, so the orchestra just the perfect extension to all of that. All their musicians are so talented! Their drummer also plays the the trumpet and plucked the piano strings and the sousaphone lady also plays the upright bass - their piano player also plays the violin and accordion..you get the idea!
It was a sold-out show and the crowd was so into it. I seriously have never heard people cheer for an accordion so loud! People were crying & I know I had goosebumps basically the entire time!
Kari had never heard (or heard of) the band, but she was such a good sport & she really loved it too.

Here's one of my favorites from the night! (Here's a few bits from another one.)

Once you've listened to that song 20 times, you can keep reading the rest of this blog post.
Oliver has been super wild this week and the only cure is the Cherry Creek Dog Park, so this morning, that's exactly what we did.  He's been in a deep snooze since, so I think it did the trick.

I got the sweetest package from my brother's family & in it, Billy had given me an instructional accordion DVD!  Here's the instructor, Ken Mahler - love his awesome glasses & super thick MN accent! I'm already on lesson 3. Thanks, Billy!

White-Border Blanket, WIP

I saw this blanket on Pinterest and loved the clean whiteness of it! Then I stumbled upon this one on flickr (they're actually the same blanket, in different stages) and that sealed the deal - I had to make one.  I found the tutorial on her blog. I sort of wish I could say I've been working on it forever, but honestly, it's taken about a month.  So far I have 120 circles and I'm planning to make it 12 squares x 10 squares, but we'll see if I want it bigger when I get all that together! I love these little pops of colors!

I've started to add the white square border to some.
Oh, and Nicole made me a new blog header! It's so perfect. Thanks Nicole!

Valentine Craft Swap

I signed up for my very first craft swap via the Oh Strumpet Blog.  Everyone who signed up got assigned a partner - then everyone made a craft and sent it to their partner.  It's such a cute idea!
I spent forever trying to pick the perfect thing to make, but ultimately decided on a heart-appliqued canvas pillow.  It normally would've been a super easy project, but I had some major zipper trouble!

(I want one for myself!)

My partner, Rickelle, sent me this adorable owl! It's exactly the thing Oliver would love to destroy, so it's staying in my office.
You can see some of the other crafts people have made here.  I'd definitely do another swap! <3

Blanket for a Beautiful Baby: Finished!

I finished this little blanket & I gave it to the most beautiful baby in the entire world.  Have I said recently that I'm going to weave in the ends as I go and not wait until the end? It's the worst when the front looks pretty and finished and you want to give it away, but the back is a complete mess!
Originally, I did the math for the blanket and thought it was going to be the tiniest little thing ever. Thankfully, I'm really bad at math, so it turned out a lot larger than expected.
It was super easy & quick - I might have to make myself an adult version one day!

Snow Day!

I feel like the caption of this picture should be some life lesson quote about how some days you're the snow and some days you're the wiener dog.
We're getting dumped with snow today & Karley couldn't be any more jealous.
I'm at home with a lazy day ahead!

le petit vest

My co-worker Tim has been begging me for literally months to make him a shirt to match one of my dresses for trivia night.  I have no idea where this idea came from - Actually, after seeing his back seat full of costumes & props, I guess I do, but anyway.  I kept saying that I can't just sew up a men's shirt like that - a bow tie, maybe, but not a shirt.  So after months of hearing the same request, I gave in a whipped up a little (little) vest for him.  I had no pattern, no idea what his measurements were, but I just went with it.

He took the vest off when trivia was over, but since we got 2nd place (yay!), we got our picture taken.  We were all telling him to put it back on, but as you can see in the photo, it was so tight and he was having a rough time of it. Ha!
So there it is - my first item of men's clothing.

24 Hours with Lyndsay

I just spent an entire 24 hours with my friend since forever, Lyndsay! She was on a work trip to Boise and scheduled herself a day layover with me in Denver.
We had an awesomely jam-packed day of fun!
We started off at Snooze for a little bit of breakfast heaven!
Then, we had a mini adventure at SkyVenture - Indoor Skydiving!  We couldn't take our cameras in (thank goodness there's no evidence), but it was a pretty hilarious time.  You can watch a video of what it looks like below.  We had a tiny bit of training and were basically thrown into the wind tunnel. Now we're ready for some real skydiving - one day.

After we got changed and were finally able to comb our hair again, we went to the Village Cork.  I used to go there a lot, but I probably haven't been since Lyndsay was in Denver a few years ago.  Their warm brie & roasted garlic was divine.

To end our big day, we saw The Taming of the Shrew.  Not exactly Shakespeare's finest, but we had a good time.  I got the giggles during it & since we were in a round theater, there was no hiding.  Lyndsay & I used to play duets at piano competitions in junior high and we'd rarely get through a song because of all the giggling....15 years later - same story.
Lyndsay made it safe & sound back to Providence and it was so fun having a quick little visit!
