my little baby berries

A few weeks ago, I bought a strawberry plant and look at it now! I'm so proud.  I love strawberries more than any other food, so you can imagine my joy to see these.  Natalia bought me a strawberry growing kit that I've also just planted, so I'm nervous to see what happens to them!

the weekend!

Don't ask me what tempted me to give beverages bunny ears.  I blame Joey.
I had a super fun weekend of shopping, baking, good food (and drinks), park time & friends!

Loren & I made macarons.  She's such an awesome baker and I....well...I sifted the almond flour.  We even got to add sprinkles, which was my favorite part!  Oliver's favorite part was keeping an eye on the back yard.

Pudding Face

Beth & I went to the Pita Pit and I thought I was being such a good vegetable eater by adding all these toppings to my pita.  Apparently, I wasn't, because the employee gave me a coupon for a free pita, because mine "barely had anything on it."
She took a picture of me with my little coupon and a few minutes later, she's falling off her chair laughing and shows me this:
It's from this pudding commercial...I guess free pitas give me pudding face.

Bruschetta & White Trash Fondue

Last night Marie came over to watch the Bachelorette and I made Artichoke & Basil Bruschetta (using this recipe from Shutterbean).  It was super easy (no injuries) and really, really good! I wish I would've gotten white wine instead of Red, but it was still really tasty!

And then, for dessert, I made Toblerone Fondue. I just wanted to make a small serving - this wasn't quite an occasion for the chocolate fountain.  Between Marie & I, we figured out this little set-up, which consisted of a mini pie container, 3 cans of olives & a tea light.  It worked like a little dream!

Coffee Cubes

I saw a post on Twitter that a coffee shop used ice cubes made of coffee in their iced coffees.  How clever - no more watered down coffee! I had to make some last night and test them out! Perfect.

Beth & I made a deal that she'd come to an early Sunday morning spin class with me & I'd eat a whole meal of only vegetables (of her choosing).  Part one of the deal happened yesterday morning.  She pretended to be mad at me, but she loved every second of it.  We got such a good workout & celebrated with Starbucks & Subway breakfasts afterwards - after I dropped her off, I got this text:
"Can we do that again next Sunday?"
I'm a little nervous about my vegetable meal...Notice below that I tried to put a tomato on my sandwich and I took a bite of it and had to take it off.  I'm not quite ready for raw tomatoes yet.

I spent the rest of the day celebrating "Sister Wives Sweatpants Sunday" (SwSpS), with Emily & Natalia.  I always laugh to the point of tears and stomachaches with those two and yesterday was no exception.
Emily made the yummiest lunch, plus sweet potato pie....and brownies.  We were so spoiled!
We need to find a new show, so we can have an excuse to sit on the couch for 7 hours and do nothing but laugh and eat.

Yesterday felt like the Saturday I always want to have - reading, naps, friends & parks!  I spent the entire morning reading.  I'm so hooked on Tina Fey's new book.  I tried to read it at the gym yesterday, but I got so many weird looks due to my laughing out loud and I realized after 60 minutes on the bike, I hadn't broken a sweat.
A new Buffalo Wild Wings opened near where Nicole & I used to live, so we met there for lunch.  Apparently they weren't officially open & it was "training day," so, not only did we get 150% awesome service, the meal was completely free!  We weren't on the list, but Nicole got there before me and somehow got us in - yay Nicole!

Oliver & I spent the rest of the windy afternoon at Cheeseman Park.  We ran enough to actually tire him out - he even laid down in the grass, which has happened maybe twice before!

And, another Paper Bird song to leave you with!

Kindle Cuddles

Oliver was super cuddly this weekend.  I finished The Four Agreements & started Freedom.
Then he decided he needed a walk, so stared at me until I took him to the park.  He will win any staring contest!

Sienna Wine Bar

Is it wrong to go to the same wine bar 3 times in one week...wait...is it bad to go to any wine bar 3 times a week?  I can't believe it's been 2 blocks away from me for the past year! I guess I'm making up for lost time.

Don't Go!!! Monday

Karley's flight didn't leave until 1:30pm on Monday, so we had some time to waste in the morning.  I wanted to take her to the cutest breakfast place around, so we walked to Snooze.  Every single morning when I drive by, there are people lined up outside, waiting for a table, but we were again, so early, that there was only one other table seated.
We had such a difficult time ordering, but we both lucked out and had to-die-for breakfasts! We shared a blueberry lemon bar pancake with cream cheese topping. My mouth is watering!! I bet Loren could make those!

After breakfast, we went to JoAnn's for a last minute craft project - dying Karley's vintage clutch for the wedding.  What a process!
Then, I forced her to watch the Ruby Show.
Beth hates the Ruby Show and especially hates when I do my Ruby impression. I can't really blame her.
On Sunday, I told Karley about Ruby and I said if she could do a Ruby impression to Beth (and have Beth know she was being Ruby), I'd give her $2.  Ruby has her own slang, like hacky means happy + excited & she says "essited" instead of "excited," so those were the easy ways to get to Beth.  Karley pulled through and, at the wine bar, broke out her Ruby impression.  I also may have told Karley to talk about Ruby like she was the greastest woman ever.  It was so perfect!!
I had to get this on video to torture Beth with foreverrrrrr!! so I made Karley do another impression before she left. It makes me so HACKY to watch this on repeat!!  Afterall, what are best friends for if not to use to annoying other best friends.

We wore our matching shirts to the airport!

It was sooooo sad to see Karley go and, by the looks of this picture, she was sad to leave too!
We had the very best bachelorette weekend imagineable.  I can't believe the next time I see her will be for her WEDDING!

I Just Ran Farther Than I Ever Have: Sunday

On Sunday morning, we HAD to wake up earlier, but we still woke up much earlier than necessary.  Karley is training for a marathon and one of the conditions of her visit was definitely running.  Karley's optimism is so contagious, so by the end of a phone conversation we had early on, not only did I agree to run the race, but I was excited about it. Ugh!
Karley made us matching shirts that said, "Race 2 Remember," with my mom's name on them.  It was so thoughtful of her...and it made it harder to complain about the distance, the fatigue, the heat, the wind..etc, etc..  Karley said, "Just think how proud your mom would be." And yes, I'm sure she would be, but I can hear her saying, "What in the world would you do that for?"
When we got there, we realized that 9K actually means 9.9K.  How tricky of them, eh ? Less than halfway through I was tempted to send angry text messages to Karley, but I refrained and by the end, I was in a really good mood.  It was definitely the longest I've ever ran...which I kept reminding her of throughout the remainder of her visit.

We had planned to go to Boulder after the race, but Karley wanted to see mountains, so we made a quick pit-stop in Estes Park.  We again, had to eat outside, but we were having trouble deciding.  We got a patio table at a little place called the Wild Rose.  The server said that he gave us an extra shot in our margaritas and it went downhill from there.  The food was soooo disgusting! Like, Kitchen Nightmares disgusting!! We figured he gave us an extra shot, so we wouldn't notice how horrible the food was. Let's not talk about that anymore.  Moving on.......we spent a bit of time walking around the shops and enjoying the views, then we made our way to Boulder.

We spent the rest of the afternoon at the Pearl Street Mall.  Karley said that this made up for the Wild Rose fiasco, so I was relieved to hear that!
We shopped around and enjoyed all the, well, most of the street performers.
Before heading back to Denver, we continued the unsuccessful search for the mysterious wedding tie Karley & Robby fell in love with at Banana Republic.  I bet we stopped at 5 stores and had no luck.

$5 for a lemonade and the sticker is still on the lemon! What gives!
I have been dying to try the wine bar a few blocks down my street and since I knew it had a patio, I suggested that as a meet up place for our evening plans.
Beth & Karley used to work together in Fargo, so we just had to see her, plus her mom was in town and that was just a bonus!  The wine bar was all around perfect and we had the very best time and laughed way too much!!  By this time, we had forgotten all about our unfortunate lunch.
Halfway through the night, Karley said, "Oh yeah! Welcome to my Bachelorette Party!!!!"
She also attempted to be a bridezilla by making Beth give her some rhubarb jam.
We walked home & went straight to bed...because if you remember, I had run the farthest I'd ever ran that morning.  Zzzzzzz

Yesterday, Paper Bird posted one of their new songs from their new Carry On Ballet album.  It starts to get really good around 2:30...so many layers! Love it!

The Sun Feels So Good: Saturday

Karley was still on Central Time & I just couldn't sleep in, so we woke up at 5:30 and made pancakes!  There was only one minor fire, but it wouldn't be the same if we didn't have some kitchen drama.  We were planning on going to the Cinco de Mayo Parade + festival dowtown, but since we woke up so early, we had time to kill!  We painted our nails & watched all the clips of "Extreme Couponing" we could find on youtube.
Then we made our way downtown.  I read in the paper there were supposed to TONS of people at the festival & multiple roads would be closed, plus I still have the mentality I live in the suburbs, so we took the light rail.

Waiting for the parade to start...Where are all the people?

After that "parade," we made our way down the 16th Street Mall to Dixon's.  Duluth is still pretty chilly this time of year, so Karley's only requirement was that we eat outside!
I kept telling her how good the homemade potato chips were at Dixon's, but when we got there, the server said they've never had potato chips..whoops!  The food was still super yumm!
Don't get distracted by Karley's smile...notice to her left..yes, you're seeing right, that is Jesus, complete with the cross & crown of thorns.

After lunch, we did a bit of shopping!  I still haven't found my maid of honor dress for Karley's wedding and when we stopped in Anthropologie, she had me try on this one as a possibility.  It was so unflattering, but I just LOVE that she's a bride that would love a dress like this!!

We bought some snackies + wine and made our way to City Park.  Oliver was feeling a little neglected, so he tagged along.  He barked at everyone/thing was a superb guard dog!!
Karley could not get over the warm hot temps and she kept saying, "The sun feels soooo good."

We stayed at the park as long as possible, and when we finally got home, we opened the ice cream and watched a really cute movie, Revenge of the Bridesmaids.  99% of the time, Karley has fallen asleep when we've watched movies, but this time, she was wide awake!!
It was such a perfect day!
