The Never-ending Drive

We made it from Denver to Northwood in a quick 17 hours. By quick, I mean excruciating. There was a snow storm in Denver, but we drove right out of it...and counted 11 cars in the ditch. We listened to Blindess on audiobook, which was excruciating all on its own. Oliver got a little car sick and we started to get a little loopy, but we're home...all to do it again next weekend.

How did I ever find a friend who would volunteer to finish my Christmas shopping AND bring me a cheeseburger with extra pickles while I slept and slept and slept? Technically, that's a trick question, because Karley found her as a friend first.  Anyway.....
My never-ending headaches are getting less severe and fewer between, but unfortunately, yesterday was not one of those days.
Thanks Beth for being a little Christmas angel!!

Cold no More!

Exhibits A, B and C...a heated blanket from Beth, wool socks from Marie & sweater mittens from Karley.  Gifts from three of my best friends - three of the people I talk to (complain to) the most.  Three things that will keep me toasty, toasty warm!
I must complain about being cold more than I realize.  Either way, I'm one warm gal!

Crafts Forever

My newest project is a little Nintendo-inspired throw/afghan for my nephew.  Every 9-year-old wants a crocheted gift, am I right? I'm not right, but this is what he's getting.  I can get pretty obsessed with crocheting, so I wasn't worried at all about getting it done, but I'm working on a few other things, which means I have a lot of squares left! Ahhh
I first got the idea from Stumpets Crumpets and with any luck, it'll look similar to this.

Yesterday, Nicole hosted a craft day party in her basement.  We were all seriously productive! I finished 40 squares, which is pretty unheard of for me.  I had a serious case of crocheting claw afterwards.
Nicole also provided cute little holiday crafts for us to work on.  For the ornament shown below, you coat the inside of the ornament with Pledge and then pour in glitter.  Genius!

Another Amos Night

Amos Lee is by far one of my very favorite musicians! Beth & I were trying to count the times we've seen him and I think we're missing one...maybe Karley can help!
1. Playmakers in Fargo 2006?
2. Karley & I in Minneapolis (When in the world was this?)
3. Chautauqua Park, Boulder 2007
4. Denver August 2008
5. Boulder Theater, Feb 2011

Anyway, onto #6 or whatever number we're on - at the DCPA last Friday night.
We had such a yummy pre-Amos meal at Osteria Marco.

My favorite song of the night had to be "Careless." Siiiighhhh.

Last Weekend

I'm just now catching up on last weekend. Oops!  On Friday, we celebrated Marie's Birthday!
We ate at the Elephant Bar and then saw Arthur Christmas.  It was the sweetest Christmas movie ever.  What's cuter than a tiny elf?  I kept thinking that someone would die, etc., but it's a kid's movie, so I had to remind myself they'll live happily ever after.

On Sunday, Beth & I watched the Bronco's game and did some crocheting.

I took a little break to do some quick decorating.

And then Beth watched White Christmas for the very first time! WOW! She loved it.  That's what I keep telling myself anyway.
Oh, and then there's Oliver.  He doesn't know what football is, but he kept hearing us talk about it, so he played this, more literal, type of "football" with Beth forever.

(Dog) Jacket Weather

It's getting to be pretty chilly here! Every single dog in my building wore a jacket this weekend, but Oliver was able to hold out until this morning.  I dressed like I was living in North Dakota & I wasn't even cold at all!

Craft Night

Last night, after supper at Beajo's and quick stops at Ulta, Michael's & Joann's, Beth & I had a little craft night to make some holiday wreaths.  They were a little time consuming, but really simple.  Beth's already planning on making more!
We used this little tutorial for the rosettes and we couldn't believe they acutally looked like the picture - so easy!

Let Him In!

Oliver didn't care too much for the snow, but unfortunately nobody let him inside, so we had to keep walking. He tried the same stunt with almost every door along 12th Ave.

Happy Monday!

The Weekend of Crochet

I had such a crafty weekend! On Saturday, I spent two hours at the car dealership getting my car worked on and crocheting.  Afterwards, Nicole & I went to the Sugar Plum Bazaar - a hip little craft show.  It was pretty crowded/congested, but I was able to buy a cute little pair of earrings.  I love the picture of them below - Oliver is way too used to being the only subject of photographs...he was jealous. Nicole & Wyatt came over after the show and Wyatt got stuck in my couch, but I think he loved it.  He is just the cutest!

On Sunday, Loren came over and we crocheted for a few hours.  I always love to see what she's working on!
I also spent the entire weekend watching Breaking Bad.  It's not the most relaxing show to crochet to, but I can't stop watching.  I only have one episode left of the latest season and it's going to be insane!

Variations on a Theme

I bought the dish towel, pictured below, and then started to notice a theme of sorts.  Thanks to Beth for adding the Santa hat to Oliver for my new header.  I can't look at it without laughing.  Poor little Santa Oliver.

I'm starting a new blanket that is so perfect, but here's the pattern.  It actually comes with a chart too, so I think I can swing it.  The last big pattern I used was from Australia, so I'm becoming a  pretty international crafter.  Maybe when I actually find a US crochet pattern, it will seem easy (or I'll be clueless, because I'm always converting).

Oliver loves The XFactor

Oliver is not a big TV watcher.  He's usually cuddled up in a ball or sleeping under the covers and always oblivious to the television, but there is one show he's into - The XFactor.
I've stumbled upon that show twice now, and those are the two times he's actually stared at the TV.

This was last month.....

And this was last night.

Here is Beth's theory.

Roey + Steve + Mary + Oliver

Last weekend, Roey & Steve came to visit us! We had a really fun weekend! Dog park, Chinese with friends, Football, Nightline Mysteries, White Christmas, Dress shopping, Coors Brewery, Snooze, P10, Bubba Gump's, Senor Ricks, Starbucks, Estes Park, IKEA - what am I missing? I think I got most of it! Anyway, we had a grand ole time & I'll see them both in a month, so I can't really complain!

One picture

I have a lot of pictures to share from my weekend with Roey & Steve, but this one sort of sums it all up.

Button Collar

Last week I saw a tutorial for a button collar on the Freckled Nest blog.  Oliver had to have one, of course!  When I find a cute collar, it's always so expensive, so this was the perfect solution.  I really wanted to add red buttons for the Christmas season, but I resisted...for now anyway.

The Pink Tree!

Posted by Picasa

I've been wanting a pink Christmas tree forever! Last year, I had this exact one in my cart and took it out at the last minute.  Yesterday, Marie didn't let me make that mistake again.
It's not quite decorated yet, but Oliver is still in awe of it.
P.S. I still had all of my Halloween decorations up, so I decided to take them down, but then I still had pumpkins around that can stay through Thanksgiving...maybe this means I'm decorating too early!

More snow!

We had another snowy day yesterday, and another snowy morning walk.  I wore my North Dakota winter coat for the first time this season! I think it was only 18 degrees when I left my apt.  I almost put Oliver's little coat on, but I knew he'd be embarassed in front of all the huskys and labs of the neighborhood.

Sunday Brunch

Two words: Bottomless Mimosas.
We love the Irish Snug.

3rd Annual Halloween Party

On Friday, I had some of my very best friends over for a little Halloween party.  We had plenty of good food & drinks and of course we had to play Apples to Apples.  We added Catch Phrase to the mix for the first time, but Oliver got a little angry at that game, so he had to sit in the kennel and watch.
We had Henry & Lydia from the TV show Party Down, Dave Summerfield (Beth's Dad), a couch, a zombie, a cowboy & little puppy, a cat, Colorado weather, a werewolf & a few other costumes I didn't get photos of!
Now it's time for Christmas!!

Strawberry Shortcake & Custard

Here's a little glimpse of the decor - Beth made the adorable banner in the middle photo.
Thank you Pinterest, for all the inspiration. (Bats & Banner)
