Christmas Sleepover Checklist 2009

For the past few years, Joey has come to Grandpa Olson's for a "Christmas Sleepover." This is a very big event and "Christmas Sleepover 2009" is already in the works.
I spoke with Joey and we compiled a list of essentials. I didn't want to lose this precious list, so here goes.

Hot Chocolate, Marshmallows and Sugar Cubes
Joey loves Christmas cocoa, we all know this, but the sugar cubes are a new development for 2009...Let's skip the cookies & snacks and go right for the sugar!

Santa Pinata
They do exist apparently.

To: Mary, From: Karley Ann

So, I got this neato package from my best friend, Karley Ann! She MADE me a pretty journal, and bought me a pretty coral necklace and note cards.
Marie sneaked in on my writing in my new diary.
If you click on the photos, you'll be able to read what I'm writing...which is of course, very secretive, so don't click on the photo...especially you, Karley! Don't do it.

Thanks Karley! I miss you so much!

Pumpkin Spice Latte

One of my top 3 favorite Starbucks Drinks! I can't wait to test it out.

Pumpkin Spice Latte
makes 1-2 servings

Ingredients:
2 cups milk
2 tablespoons canned pumpkin OR 1 teaspoon of Torani Pumpkin Spice Syrup (your choice)
2 tablespoons sugar or sugar substitute - you can halve this amount
2 tablespoons vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
1-2 shots espresso (about 1/4 cup of espresso or 1/2 cup of strong brewed coffee if you don't have an espresso machine.)

Directions:
In a saucepan combine milk, pumpkin and sugar and cook on medium heat, stirring, until steaming. Remove from heat, stir in vanilla and spice, transfer to a blender and process for 15 seconds until foamy. If you don't have a blender, don't worry about it - just whisk the mixture really well with a wire whisk.

Pour into a large mug or two mugs. Add the espresso on top.

Optional: Top with whipped cream and sprinkle pumpkin pie spice, nutmeg, or cinnamon on top.

Cirque!!

I am so thrilled to report that I am finally going to Cirque next Wednesday night! The tickets were 40% off!
The first Cirque show I went to was in Vegas and the second was in Grand Forks, North Dakota, so I'm expecting this one to be somewhere in the middle.

I have some exciting things to post when I get home!

Oktoberfest

Image via here

Beth & I had such a fun day yesterday. We started off with an early breakfast at Lucile's. It was stupendous! Beth scared our server by saying "Good morning." Next time we go there, I'll definitely be ordering a Bloody Mary. Maybe saying that they had the most amazingly looking Bloody Mary will lure Miss Karley down to Colorado!?
After breakfast we made our way to Breckenridge for Oktoberfest. The air was thin and the weather was warm. We bought mini steins and Beth enjoyed a bratwurst with sauerkraut and mustard.
We ate supper @ Fatty's.
Our server claimed that Fatty was his uncle, so Beth somehow decided to call him Fatty Jr., which wasn't exactly right (for a number of reasons).

Oliver & the Kitty

Spoiler Alert

Image via here
Last night I went to this movie. I had a free pass for the theater because when I went to "Paper Heart," the sound was malfunctioning and they kept having to start and stop it.

This movie was really sweet and adorable (with a great soundtrack and an autumn in new york vibe), but about 10 minutes before the end, the power went out! I have never been any place darker in my life. Apparently, the power went out for the whole block. The usher brought a flashlight, and once again, we got free passes for next time.

There was only 10 minutes left of the movie and we all needed to know what happened, so one of the employees "spoiled" it for us. Since all the movies were cancelled, he had to spoil everyone's movie. I couldn't do that, but I think my roommate would be great for that job...(Her nickname is "spoiler alert.") Some ladies from another movie asked, "What happens to ______? Does she get famous?" (I won't spoil the movie for you.) And he replied something like, "She loses her mind" in a very matter-of-fact tone.
OOoo, Look at my cute new mug from Pier One. (Doesn't it look so classy next to my "Summit Disposall" pen holder hand-me-down?)

Roey's Wicked! I mean...Roey & Wicked.

Image via here

I really love living in Denver, but a major downside is missing my family dearly! Visits from them are so exciting and wonderful!! Great news: My Roey is coming in just over one month from now! We're going to see Wicked and of course do a ton of awesomely fun things.
Whoohooo!

This is me choking Roey at the zoo, but I really do love her.

Race for the Cure!

It's official:

I registered for my first 5K race. It's October 4th and my training is well underway. Loren encouraged me to sign up. She used the "Couch to 5K" plan as a guide for working up to the run. I registered late and missed most of the "couch" part of the plan, but I'm surviving and really enjoying the beautiful Denver mornings.

Oliver can be a really great running partner, but he is also a major pain. He's fast, but he has to stop every few feet to mark his territory. I recently switched him to a short leash and a prong collar and that is working out much better! He's also very competitive, so he cuts me off if he thinks I'm about to pass him, which trips me, and help us all if a squirrel or a bunny happens to run anywhere in the vicinity.

Football & Good/Bad Eats

First of all, yum! Nicole & I grabbed lunch at the Pearl Street Grill. I always describe the food as "fall off your chair" good. I think of Karley eating a hamburger from the grill, which was so good, she literally fell over backwards.
We had a sweet little table on the patio right next to this fountain. We did get a few leaves in our food/hair, but it was worth it.

Secondly, yuck! I went with Marie and a few of her co-workers to Casa Bonita. It's an entertaining type of place with cliff divers, bands, and lots of crazy things you'd never expect to see. The food was just...not good. I ordered my nachos sans lettuce and they said it would take an extra 15 minutes. That doesn't make a lot of sense, considering it's less work to not put lettuce on, but as someone pointed out, they probably were mad at me and it would take them at least 15 minutes to pick all the lettuce off!
We had a little nervous magician visit our table. Awww

On Thursday night, I went with Loren & Adam to the Broncos vs. Cardinals game. I had never been to an NFL game and I was really looking forward to it. I don't exactly know the rules of the game...1st and 10...1st down? But I had such a fun time! And, the Broncos even won 19-0. Would you call that a shut-out?

My Hallelujah Bed

(Imagine choirs of angels singing) Words cannot describe how eager I was to have a larger bed and thanks to my dearest family, a brand new one was delivered yesterday morning.
I got the best deals, which makes it all the better. The bed itself was on sale first of all. Then, the comforter set was 80% off. Regularly $369.00!! Can you believe that?
Each of the small decorative pillows was orginially $50, marked down to $9.99. I also got the sheet set on sale at Macy's. Oh, I got a side sleeping pillow free with the purchase of the mattress pad. If I was a math person, I'd add up all the savings, but I'm not, so you'll just have to take my word for it!

Marie took photos of me looking a little crazy/ecstatic!

And no, Oliver is certainly not allowed on the bed!

This last one is me talking to Roey. Awww Roey!
