Etc. Post

Marie says the funniest/strangest things and I've been meaning to write them down, but I never get around to it.
Today's quote, "So, you do have a conscience."
Ouch, Marie, ouch.

It's almost been a week since I signed up for the triathlon. Running has been going surprisingly well. Oliver's loving the new routine! I fell over a fence last week (don't ask) and I have some painful bruises on my legs, but other than that, everything is going good.
Thanks to Karley, I have some helpful books to prepare me.
I need to buy a bike & I've been checking craigslist for used bikes every day, but no luck so far.

On a random note, this photo reminds me of the time Dad made me help him pick up a dead deer on the side of the road on the way home from church. I was so horrified and I think I said, "As long as I don't have to touch the head" and he said, "grab the head." I just got the chills.

Dresses I want...to sew?

I love all of these dresses via Anthropolgie. They are all super expensive, so if I could find some fabric or a great pattern, I could make something to tie me over. I especially love the last one - how fun would that be to wear?

"Tri for the Cure" or "What have I done?"

Yesterday, I volunteered at the cafe at church and my friend Shanda and I were talking about working out and running, etc. Another lady from the church, Tina, had overheard us and said we needed to sign up for the "Tri for the Cure" because she's done it several times and loved it.
It consists of:
Swim: 1/2 miles
Bike: 11.4 miles
Running: 3.1 miles
and all this happens August 2, 2009.

Fast forward 36 hours and I'm officially registered (and excited)!
I think this will be a really great fitness goal for me and a great first triathlon. It's all women and they have varying fitness levels. It's not super competitive and it'll be great to just finish!
I live very close to the Cherry Creek State Park, where this all takes place, so I have a little advantage maybe. Plus, I have Karley, who knows a lot about all of this and she will guide me through.

Dogatonic

I sometimes watch this dog behavior show, It's Me or the Dog. I couldn't resist posting this video because it's so incredibly creepy!

Happy Love Day!

photo via here
Happy Valentine's Day! And what says Valentine's Day better than red shoes?

I finished my skirt yesterday! It's so cute, but you don't get to see pictures yet because I haven't showered yet. This skirt is different because I took my time, I ironed a lot and if I made a mistake, I redid it. And thanks to the zippers class that I took last week, my zippers actually look nice! And my ukulele came, so I spent a few hours yesterday practicing - it is so fun!! Maybe I'll post a video later.

I loved Karley's post about her messy room and here's my equivalent. Click here to read her post. But the laundry is clean, so that gives me points, right? Can you find Oliver? Isn't that funny. If Karley had a pet, I wonder if it would get lost like my poor doggy?

Play time!

Preparing for my Ukulele

I got a really good deal on a ukulele on ebay. I cannot wait for it to come! It's white like the one pictured, but looks a little different. I know what you're thinking.."Why, Mary, why?" but ukuleles are really becoming mainstream...plus, I'm impulsive.

Long time gone

Nothing much blogworthy has happened lately. I was pretty sick this past weekend with some sort of awful flu. I was out of this world on Friday night and I wanted 7up so bad that I managed to make it to King Soopers at 5:30am to get a 2 liter. It was not pretty.

I stayed home from work on Monday, but I had an "interview" for my spring practicum in Westminster in the afternoon and I did make it to that.

I'll be completing my practicum at College Hill Library, which serves the Front Range Community College and the city of Westminster, CO. I'll mainly be working on the academic side of things, but I'll also be putting in hours with the children's department. The library is quite new and absolutely beautiful. Here's a few photos.

This weekend I'll be reading The Giver for my young adult class.

Tomorrow I'm going to be putting my newly learned sewing skills to use by making a dress! I'm waiting to make my skirt until I learn about zippers in next week's class. I'll definitely be posting photos. I have a lull in my homework, so I'm looking forward to a better weekend than last!

I'm looking into things Roey & I can do during her visit. I found a cute play that will be showing.
