the view

Oliver isn't allowed in the front seat anymore, so this is his new favorite spot (second to having his head hang out the window). He gets a good view from here.

View from my apt building.

Snow, snow!

Photo from: Loveland

Denver has snow! It probably won't last long, but nevertheless, I'm excited. Oliver woke me up really early this morning - I think he wanted to check out the snow before any neighbors dogs were awake.

My List Today:
1. have breakfast
2. sew, sew, sew
3. bring back books to the library (I can't wait to see what the mountains look like this morning)
4. nap
5. sew, sew, sew

And that's everything on my agenda so far....
Oh, this morning I found out I got a 4.0 last quarter. What a relief!

Black-eye Friday

Nicole & I had a nice little Thanksgiving. We ate a lot of goodies and a lot of wine, beer, Bailey's, and regular coke! Perfect. We went to bed early to prepare for Black Friday. I woke up @ 4am to prepare Oliver for our departure and we were on the road by 5am. The lines for the registers at Kohl's wrapped around the entire store, so we ran out of there and went over to Target to wait for the opening. The Target employees made sure no one budged and they were on top of everything.
I got so many deals (that I can't disclose to you all). People were a little wild and crazy, but I didn't get hurt and I didn't get in any brawls and for that, I'm thankful.
We finished shopping at around 11am, had lunch and a nice long nap.

Thanks to Nicole for making me a super cute new blog header! I love it so much.

I want a Ukulele!!

I can't explain it, but I've wanted a ukulele for several months! It is so cute and I love the uke sound. I've been listening to ukulele music on youtube all day long.
This one is on ebay - click here to see the auction.

Step away from the space heater...

The heat in our apartment building went out Thursday night, or maybe earlier, but we haven't needed it until now. It was really cold on Thursday night, so I bundled up and it wasn't so bad. Little Oliver was shivering though and he ended up sleeping under all of my blankets near my feet.
So yesterday, Xcel was supposed to come and fix the problem, but they didn't, so the maintenance guys came around and gave us little space heaters until the problem was fixed. As you can see, Oliver hogged it almost the entire time. Luckily, the heat was fixed today (even though we didn't need it today - it was in the 60s).

Oliver & I went to the dog park today with my friend Emily and her dog, Sally. I think Oliver liked the people better than most of the dogs. There was a man sitting on one of the benches and Oliver jumped up on his lap to say hi I guess. One man was pushing his dog in a wheelbarrow because his paw was hurt. The same man had another dog that had recently had a stroke, so it had a training wheel / walker type thing to help it walk.

Can't wait to make this!

Top image from, bottom from

This is my next project! The skirt is from Stitch magazine, designed by Jenny Gordy. I got a navy corduroy to use, which I think would look so great with ivory tights or an ivory sweater. I might not work on for a bit - my first priority is anything for Christmas!

I tried to get Roey to take an impromptu trip to Denver for the weekend, but she can't..she's going to Neal Diamond. C'mon, Roey!

Brrr....It's cold outside

I've been feeling nice and warm down here in Denver...until this morning. I usually take Oliver for a morning run, but I kept my slippers on because it was still dark at around 6:15. We live on the 2nd floor and we have outside stairs and poor little Oliver slipped down a few of them. They were pure ice! We walked for about 5 minutes and headed back up the stairs and Oliver couldn't make it up and slipped down, so I carried him up the rest of the stairs. He doesn't have the advantage of holding on a railing like me I suppose. It's 27 degrees. Time for my winter coat.

I bought this hat yesterday from missindie, a seller on etsy, which is a website where people can sell their homemade things. It's called the "park bench hat," which is so adorable. I have the large Olson head (not as big as Bill's, but...), so hopefully it looks good! I can still have a cute crocheted flower while I learn to make them myself. The flower is removable, which I like.

Electra love

I've been bike shopping for awhile and I'm convinced that this is the perfect bike for me! I found it here. It's called the Electra Amsterdam Classic 3 Yellow Tulip Ladies Bicycle. Sooo cute!

Okay, this is hard.

Crocheting is hard! Above is a photo of some of my first, sad, attempts. I tried to follow basic directions and then I started to follow the directions to make a flower. I think I finally got the idea, but I will need a lot of practice. I like crocheting - it's relaxing.

Crochet Flowers

I would love to learn how to vintage crochet flowers like this. Elizabeth Seratzki taught me how to crochet a long straight line, so maybe that was my first step towards something grander. This website said it's a good starter project for children - I like the sound of that. I'll let you know how it goes.

Baby Quilt is all done!

I finished the baby quilt tonight. Oliver was gracious enough to pose next to it so you can see the scale, etc. It's not huge, but I put in a double layer of batting to make it extra soft and warm. I used a jersey type of fabric for the backing which I probably won't do again. It's very very soft, but I don't really have the skills yet to work with it. I made a two inch pink border on the front, but it looked so bad - it was bunching and icky, so I took that off and I like it a lot better. Now I can start my next project, which is yet to be determined.
Tomorrow is my first day off where I don't have to be doing homework! We're supposed to get 2" of snow and it's supposed to be very windy, so we'll see. I have nowhere to go!

Procrastination Sunday

I went to JoAnn Fabrics yesterday and got the backing and batting for the baby quilt. I got a fun bright pink (shown above). Perfect for a baby girl. I acutally did laundry yesterday and when I was folding my clothes, I found a teeny tiny baby sock. The person who did laundry before me must've forgotten it in the dryer. I guess that's one explanation of the "missing sock" problem.

I got my mini book in the mail. It's fun. It looks like I need to re-paint my nails. The print is really little, but I can still read it pretty well. Marie pointed out that it would fit perfectly in my librarian action figure's hand. How cute.
You can get a good look at my messy studying desk. Diet coke, water, gum, my glasses, my ipod, Strangers with Candy TV show (season 1), nail clippers, nail polish, headband, a book and a notebook - oh, and sewing machine is set up to my right and my computer is set up to the left. Marie got this librarian action figure for me for Christmas last year. It's Nancy Pearl, a famous librarian from Seattle, WA.

My Day Off

I finished the main body of the quilt this morning. I might add a border to the outside to make it a bit bigger. I'm planning on getting a cute pink fabric for the backing. Hopefully I can finish this up and get it mailed by Monday.

Oliver has been tuckered out today. I took him outside this morning and he kept sneezing. It was so cold! Our neighbor has a mini dachsund and, this morning, she was wearing a little jacket. It sort of looked like a mini-mini horse blanket. I think Oliver will have to survive with the fur God gave him.
It looks like I need to wash my pillowcases today, but isn't he just the cutest?

I'm working on a "New Testament Study Tools" guide for my Internet Research class. I also have to finish up my Technology final and polish a paper about teaching senior citizens how to use health websites. I think I'll be able to finish all of this today and tomorrow.
I have class on Monday afternoon and I present the New Testament guide on Tuesday and then I'm done, done, done!

I love my days off. This morning I had ice cream and a diet coke for breakfast. I can't sleep in, so I woke up at 7am, but I could take a nap right now if I wanted.

Quilt progress

I've started my 2nd quilting project. This one is definitely on a smaller scale - it's for my friend, Lori's new baby girl, Marin Marie. I ordered the pre-cut squares from ebay. They are by Amy Butler (the same as my first quilt). They all have peach tones. Not my favorite color, but it's growing on me. I haven't decided on a backing yet.

I only have one week left of classes! Whooo-hoooo. Then I can start making Christmas presents and I can sew and take long naps and do anything!

This past weekend I ate at New York Deli News. I can't believe I didn't go there sooner! It's right down the street. They had a bowl of pickles waiting on the table when we sat down...perfect! I love pickles...a lot!! We had the sweetest waitress ever!

Sunday Mornings are the Best!

Karley just started her very own pretty blog, Bright Red Lipstick. Click here to check it out!!

I bid on this cute mini David Sedaris book, but the auction ended during the night and I lost! I wasn't determined to win - I just thought it would be so cute. So when I checked my e-mail this morning, I got the e-mail that said I lost, plus an e-mail that said the seller was offering me a "second chance." Apparently, he had 6 copies, so he just offered to sell me one without the bidding hassle. So the poor lady that outbid me paid more for the book anyway. Anyway, I'm excited for my mini book.

Marie & I watched White Christmas last night. After watching The Shining, I needed something light and cheerful. I LOVE this movie and now I can't stop singing! I need to get the Soundtrack ASAP!!
